After Absolutely Karting in Bristol welcomed 22 families who have children with additional needs for a free karting session on Monday 17th January, the charity Absolutely Together has launched a fundraising appeal so the city can have a specially adapted go kart permanently available.

Absolutely Together, which provides free leisure activities to special educational needs schools and families who have members with disabilities, brought twin-seat karts to the karting track for a free taster session.

Those taking part took to the track with an expert Absolutely Karting instructor for a fun and safe experience. The karts allowed the young people to have as much or as little control as possible and gave them the chance to take on family members who raced in standard go karts.

Naomi Smith, Venue Manager at Absolutely Karting Bristol, commented:

“It was such a fun event and we were delighted to be able to give children and young people from across the city the chance to take part in an activity alongside their friends and family, for free. We would love to have a twin-seat kart at the track so more people can have access to a fun and exhilarating sport.”

Absolutely Together is now fundraising to purchase a new twin-seat kart which will be permanently based at Absolutely Karting Bristol.

David Brind from Absolutely Together added:

“It can sometimes be difficult for young people who have additional needs to take part in activities alongside their friends or family members, but with the twin-seat kart everyone can be on the track at the same time. The driver can control the pedals and the steering, just the steering, simply sit back and enjoy being driven around by one of the instructors, or whatever works for them.”

“We’re working hard to raise the money needed to purchase a kart which will be located at Absolutely Karting, so Bristol families and pupils from special educational needs schools can regularly enjoy free sessions with our Together Karting programme.”
