Rockaway is proud to present major new feature film, Everything Must Change, with a follow-up discussion, plus female Cajun band Joli Blon!
Made by Reel News, Zahra Dalilah and Rowan Mataram, the film focuses on the multiple crises we face – cost of living, climate change, food, housing, land – and demonstrates how deeply they’re interlinked, which means the solutions are too. Explaining how all these crises – and the accompanying spiralling price rises – have come about, Everything Must Change also shows how a transition away from a free market extractive system (based on exploitation) and adopting a renewable energy system based on people’s needs, can solve them all.
Reel News is a London-based activist video collective, using film to help bring about social change. They work with the growing number of campaigns (often ignored by mainstream media) which are not only fighting back, but winning too – not just in the UK, but across the world. A discussion with Shaun & Fliss from Reel News follows the screening.
The evening finishes with a foot-tapping set from all female Cajun band, Joli Blon. Featuring accordion player Lucy Vines, Miriam Hogan (Flaky Jake) on guitar and fiddler Fliss Premru (The Rosinators), they’re a popular choice with party people and roots music lovers. Their authentic up-tempo dance music (two-steps, waltzes and a bit of blues) has brought audiences onto the dance floor at an eclectic mix of gigs, community events and political fundraisers – from Louisiana to the Tolpuddle Martyrs, and from Boomtown, Bath Fringe and Red Rooster festivals, to recently supporting The Quireboys at the 02, Islington.
