Migrant-led Sri Lankan Cookery Class

11 April @ 6:15 pm - 8:45 pm

Migrateful is an award-winning charity which supports asylum-seekers, refugee & migrants in their journey to integration & employment. We do this by preparing them to lead cookery classes where they teach their traditional cuisine, culture & stories.

Chef Tilly will teach delicious, authentic Sri Lankan dishes followed by a sit-down meal. Warm & easy, like being with family!

A sample menu of the dishes that will be taught include:

  • Brinjal Curry (Aubergine Curry) | Vegan; None
  • Sri Lankan Chicken Curry | Meat (Chicken); None
  • Sri Lankan Dhal | Vegan; Mustard
  • Vegetable Rice | Vegetarian; Eggs
  • Carrot Salad | Vegan; None
  • Simple Pineapple Dessert | Vegan; None

A message from our Chef Tilly:

“Hi I am Tilly from the South of Sri Lanka. I arrived in the UK on my own in my teens and I didn’t know how to cook. I was starving many days as I didn’t know how to cook and I missed my mother’s food. One time she rang me and asked me what I was eating in England so I told her I was very hungry and not eating properly. So my mother said “take the phone to the kitchen and follow my cooking instructions”. That’s how I learnt to cook – over the phone! I miss mainly three things about my mother country; my family, the food and the weather. Sri Lankan food is delicious and I’m very excited to have the opportunity to teach others how to cook it!”
